Increasingly mobile
telecommunication plays a major role in our lives. In many countries the
number of mobile phones exceeds the number of fixed line phones for voice
telephony and there is a rapid growth in the market for mobile devices
capable of receiving, sending and processing data in addition to voice.
The growth in voice traffic carried on mobile networks is slowing,
however, new opportunities in telecommunications with technologies such as
GPRS, EDGE and UMTS are enabling new services and applications to be carried
by mobile networks.

Completely new services and product categories are evolving. Providing
high level of uninterrupted and smooth service to the end-user as the market
and new products evolve will be a major challenge to operators. In meeting
these challenges comprehensive planning - from the high level strategic plan
to the detailed cell level network deployment - must be based on actual
network activity and become an ongoing task - monitoring, analyzing and
adjusting for change.

Long Range Incremental
Planning™ Since 2002, the company has been at the forefront of
developing, understanding and implementing increasingly more sophisticated
radio networks and network models for both operators and regulators
throughout the world.
This work has equipped the company with unrivalled experience of the
methodologies and practical problems associated with end to end performance,
network dimensioning, service planning and design, network and business
strategy and costs and the analysis of possible development scenarios.
The company has applied the methods and concepts, known as Long Range
Incremental Planning TM (LRIP) to seven networks in six different
countries, from West European through to South America, the Middle East and
Asia.
Long Range Incremental Planning TM (LRIP) is becoming the pre-eminent
methodology for network evolution planning for telecoms networks. The
company's experience in LRIP covers the full range of detailed steps from
process design, through model construction, to the problems that arise when
implementing and evolving networks.

 AUSPEX
The company, based upon it's experience in LRIP, has developed of a major
suit of software (AUSPEX) for monitoring end to end (technical and
financial) network performance, traffic modeling, radio network
dimensioning, to time slot level and spectrum usage. The software is
currently being trialed by a GSM / EDGE network operator, who is currently
considering becoming a UMTS operator; the software is therefore to be
extended to identifying the optimal (technical and financial) transport of
3G traffic over a GSM or WCDMA based network.
The AUSPEX solution
AUSPEX is a Strategic Planning and Detailed Network Engineering
tool, providing detailed network upgrade plans at a cell and card level.
These plans are based upon traffic and service forecasts and actual radio
coverage from each cell. This enables robust technical, business and
investment plans to be modeled and analyzed with a high degree of
confidence. AUSPEX Model provides detailed network dimensioning
requirements and will help to assess the impact on capital expenditure to
support increasing traffic levels and service types and assess the impact of
different levels of equipment sharing and the renting of space on towers.
